“WORST MAN MADE HUMANITARIAN DISASTER”
Ban ki Moon former General Secretary for the UN 2016
Since the making of the above statement, the situation got worse for civilians in Yemen. According to figures from the UN, ICRC, UNICEF and many reputable international NGOs, the current position is:-
A child under the age of 5 dies every 10 minutes due to malnutrition and preventable diseases (approximately 130 children die per day – over 70,000 per annum if we take into account other war related causes of death for the children;
Up to 400,000 children are at risk of starving to death before their 5th birthday;
Between 18-22 million are aid dependent;
8 million face actual famine;
Over 3 million are internally displaced and camped in the North of Yemen;
Over 1 million are infected with the Cholera disease;
There’s a strictly enforced blockade, which is the main cause of the lack of food and medicine because Yemen as a whole depends on approximately 80% of consumables from import.
Human Rights for Yemen is a charitable company limited by guarantee. We run an informal food distribution programme with the assistance of volunteers (doctors and other professionals) under the title of Zaynabiyyat London, to reach the most needy people.
As we are approaching the holy month of Ramadan we are hoping to get support for our food distribution programme.
